Practice writing one sentence that introduces the main point of a paragraph.
A topic sentence tells the reader what the paragraph will explain. A strong topic sentence is clear, focused, and not too broad. It should introduce one main idea that the rest of the paragraph can support with reasons or examples.
For TOEFL-style academic writing, avoid vague sentences such as This topic is important. Instead, name the topic and the specific point: Regular reading practice helps language learners improve vocabulary and comprehension.
