Introduction to Listening Comprehension

The Listening Comprehension section measures your ability to understand spoken English as it is used in North American colleges and universities.

This section is divided into three distinct parts, each with its own specific format:

  • Part A: Short Conversations This part consists of brief dialogues between two speakers. After each dialogue, a third speaker will ask a single question about it. Your task is to choose the best answer to the question from the options provided.
  • Part B: Longer Conversations In this part, you will hear longer, more extended conversations between two or more speakers. After each conversation, you will be asked several questions about its content.
  • Part C: Talks (Monologues) This part features short academic lectures or talks given by a single speaker. As with Part B, you will need to answer several questions based on the information presented in each talk.
